Indoor Christmas palm

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I live in Indiana, but love to vacation in Key West, Florida. Last year I brought home a Christmas Palm, about 5 feet tall. Since bringing it home I have had 3 new fronds open up, so I know the tree is growing, but what is the white like dust build up on the fronds and leaves? Will it have any effect on how soon the fronds die off, or turn brown?
Thanx, Scott

ANSWER: Hey Scott, is it in a container? and where are you growing it now, inside or out? give me some more info on your Adonidia. Nick

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: It is in a container. When I bought it, it was a 3 gallon pot. I have transplanted it into what I think is a 22 gallon pot, in a mixture of sand and miracle grow potting soil. It has four main trunks, 3 of which have already had new fronds opened up,  the 4th one should be in the next week or so. It was outside up until about 3-4 weeks ago, when I brought it inside away from our cool weather up here.

Answer
Hi again, spray the fronds down with a copper fungicide, this should take care of what I think is a fungal problem; the palm should be fine after you apply the Copper and subsequently (about 2 days)wash the fronds off with clean water. Indoor plants have to be watched for spider mites also, they like the dry, warm environment. Nick
