indoor palm question

Question
I have an indoor palm tree, that I  bought at Home Depot, and as the weeks went by I noticed the tips of some of the leaves are turning brown. Could this be not enough water? It's not in direct sunlight

Answer
Janie,

It depends on what kind of indoor palm it is but more likely it is too much water. They usually come planted in a peat based soil that holds a lot of water for long periods. In the tropics they grow well in fast draining sandy soil. I reccommend that you go back to Home Depot and buy a bag of buiders sand then on a nice day take it outdoors and unpot it. Carefully remove as much soil as possible and mix it 50/50 with sand then repot the palm back into the same pot and put it back into a very bright location. Water it regularly but make sure the surface of the soil is dry before you water it again. Good luck.
