Pygmy Palm Disease

Question
QUESTION: We live in Tampa Bay area and our beautiful 3 trunck palm is sick.  It has little white dots and yellow and rust looking patches.  We sprayed it every other week with an insecticide but the frons are tyrungin brown.  Is it dead?

ANSWER: sounds like a fungus, try copperfungicide and back off on the watering (if you are). The fungicide will not eliminate the existing fungus on the fronds afflicted, look to the new emerging fronds for them to be clear of the fungal problem; this could take months, so be patient and wait and see...Nick

QUESTION: We sprayed again today and cut off all the badly diseased fronds.  Hope this was a good move.  What do you think?

Answer
good! you used a "copper fungicide" I hope, and cutting off the damaged fronds is fine from an aesthetic standpoint, leaving them would not have any effect pro or con however. Mother Natures turn now to save it, and you will be surprised how well she can mend problems in the garden if allowed to. good luck..Nick
