Christmas Palm question

Question
I have a 3 tree cluster christmas palm that I moved to a new location in my yard back in sept. It seemed healthy and we have been watering it daily. The tree guy told us to water it for 3 months. Anyway, now we see a lot of the branches turning partially brown in December. The new spears growing out of the top appear to be green. But we are concerned and hope its still healty and is just not liking the colder weather. Is it still healthy or could it be dying?

Answer
Hi Nick. ..Adonidia , better known as the xmas palm is indeed stressed by cold, and this is undoubtedly a large part of the problem, another  is too much irrigating, your tree guy was partially right, but not during this time of year. Because of the time of year, the soil is cooler and the plant (palm) has slowed its growth and is not taking in nutrients or water as it would during the spring and summer. I would back off the watering somewhat, not completely, but you got to be careful not to stress the roots or even rot them and no fertilizer until Spring. Palms grow extremely slow during the Winter and those new fronds will take months to unravel, so be patient and just keep an eye on them to make sure they remain green. Nick
