QUESTION: I want to move half of the ears I have now....do I dig down to the bulb area and separate the part I want to move with a clean knife and then water both area...we live in Huntsville, Al....the weather is hot one day and rainy the next...Thanks...D

ANSWER: Hi Dave, when you dig down they will separate readily, for they each have their own root system. Nick

QUESTION: Great!!!...if I separate them in the evening (say tomorrow) and have the area prepped where I want to move them should I expect the survival to go successfully this late in the season. Dave

ANSWER: Hi Dave, when you relocate them, water them well and hopefully in a location where they are out of direct afternoon Sun; "Alocasia" likes a little Sun, but will stress in the hotter afternoon Sun. Mulch the area around the plant to keep the soil from drying out too quickly, and always keep it at least damp.  This isn't late for them, they will be  adjusted by the time the colder temperatures arrive; if some of the lower leaves yellow, or wrinkle up , don't panic,  just snip them off, it will do fine even with just a couple of leaves attached,. It is the root system that will be adapting for the next month or so, then you will see new leaves begin to emerge. Nick

QUESTION: After the flower dies off it wilts over towards the ground...I noticed there is a green oval like bulb with quill like features....after a few days....there about half dollar size...is that the seed?...does it fall...or do I pick them to plant next season in another location...Thank you Dave

Answer
When the pod dries, there are hundreds of seeds inside it, these need to be soaked over night and then etched with a sharp instrument before planted; easy to grow and very prolific! also, be careful, because they are in the Datura family and considered very poisonous. Nick
