thin a.v.s

Question
hello. i have 2 violets that has been with me for almost 3 years now. i was able to let 1 plant bloom. lately i have noticed that the petiole stem of my av's are very thin. the leaves are smaller compared to the first year i had them. the new flower buds died before they could show me there glory. i use a 20-20-20 fertilizer. i have not re-potted them for a year.

Answer
Katie,
It took several days because I had to do some research.  I have never been asked this before. I will start by saying that you could be using the wrong fertilizer.  Purchase a plant food specifically for African Violets.  Their nutritional needs are different from many other houseplants because they have both foliage and flowers.  Also, make sure that you do not feed them during the winter months, usually between October through February.  Even though they are inside plants they still need a "rest period" like other plants.
I hope this helps you.  If you need further help please send a followup.
