Hedges

Question
Hi Tom,could you recomend fast growing trees for hedging in a small garden in Kent,England.
thank you

Answer
Hi Carol,
Thanx for your question.  Have you thought of Rose-of-Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) or boxwood (Buxus).  Another shrub recommended specifically for the south of the UK was Escallonia rubra macrantha.

Contact a nursery such as the one shown below for advice common to your area.  I have no experience with this company.  It's just an idea.

Forsythia is a fast-growing shrub we use a lot in the U.S.  It has beautiful yellow flowers in March and April and then is a green shrub until October.  It is easily pruned after it has bloomed and started to leaf out.

Flowering quince, mock orange (philadelphus), eleagnus, Oleria, Prunus, Gorse, Tamarix, Skimmia, Griselinia, Hydrangea.

I hope this helps.
Tom
