White moss on strawberry plants

Question
Strawberry1
Strawberry1
I have two strawberry plants growing on my veranda. Both get sufficient light, I try not to over water and have been healthy since I repotted them. It has been about a month or two since I repotted them with good soil in self watering pots. The last few days one of my strawberry plants has white moss starting to grow. Over the last 24 hours the moss has started to take over and is starting to kill one of my strawberry plants. What could be the problem?

Answer
Trent,

You are overwatering them by using self watering pots. They keep the soil constantly wet and they can't stand to be constantly wet. The white moss is mold. To get rid of it you can spray the plant daily for 2 weeks with Lysol spray holding the can at least 12 inches from the plants. The only thing that is sufficient light is full sun all day long. Strawberrys grow in full sun in fields all over this country. They need sun.

Air circulating from a fan will also help get rid of the mold. I do not reccommend self watering pots for any plants. The only time they are good is if you wait 3 weeks between waterings. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck!
