Question -
I am pretty sure i have over watered quite afew of my outdoor plants,as the leaves from the bottom upwards are turning yellow and falling off.I am just wondering if there is anything i can do to save them, especially a honeysuckle that is going very well after two years of trying to find the right spot outside for it.What can i do?

Answer -
Nicola,

The only thing you can do outdoors for plants that are planted in the ground is to be very careful not to overwater in the future. Where do you live? Have you had a lot of rain latly. If you really think it is overwatered protect the area from the rain with a tarp or something for a few days. This time of year there are also a lot of fungus problems that can cause a few yellow leaves but won't drastically hurt the plant. Do as much as you can to protect them from rain for awhile and do not add water to them for awhile. Good luck.

Hi again
I forgot to mention that the honeysuckle is in a pot and has been in this pot for around three years but its only started to grow well this year. The pot is large enough and we have had no rain for a while.I live in the uk and the tempretures have been around 25-35 degrees. So im assuming that i have been a little over zealous with the water.I also have plants in baskets that also appear to be doing the same thing.

Answer
Nicola,

Honeysuckle is one of those plants that like to be rootbound and tend to do better in smaller pots than in larger pots. Just do your best to let the plant get fairly dry before watering it again. Remember that even when the surface of the soil is dry there is still plenty of moisture lower in the pot. Use of a moisture meter might be helpful in finding out just how dry or wet it is in the root zone. Here in the US they are around $20.00 and worth the investment for touchier plants.  Is the plant in full sun?  It has been my experience that honeysukle likes lots of sun. Good luck.
