White mold killing my plants

Question
I have a white mold which is spreading through many of my ferns. It attaches itself to the stems then spreads up and down the stem. Then the leaves dry up die. I have tried washing the plants with soap and water. I have tried a fungicide. Nothing works. Once a plant is infected it dies. The mold is snow white in color. When you first see it you think it is dust. I believe it spreads  through the air. It came in on a palm tree which died from it. It then spread to my ferns. It seems not to affect philodendrons or cactus. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Answer
Brad:
Can you send me a closeup photo of this stuff on the fern? Review it on your computer first- to be sure it is in focus before sending.  This may be a couple of things- powdery mildew (fungus diseases)or an insect such as scale or mealy bug.
