Armadillos

Question
Since living in Florida and now in South East Georgia, I have had a problem with Armadillos digging up my lawn. I tried mothballs. Didn't work. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Mike Owen.

Answer
Hi Michael;
Try sprinkling a generous amount of cayenne pepper in the holes.
That works fot moles etc. It irritates their noses, just like it does ours, so they will move. If they dig a new hole, put cayenne in there.
Find out what time of year they have new babies in there.
You wouldn't want to do it whe the babies are too small for the mother to get them oput, and relocate them so they can survive.
They eat a lot of the insects we don't need in our lawns, so even though they create a problem themselves, they are beneficial to us.
I am surprised the mothballs didn't shoo them off. Those things are toxic.
Mothballs in the soil in hot weather, by the way, can damage the vegetation growing there.
You can dig mothballs into the soil to get rid of borers in a tree, but you have to dig them up before hot weather gets to them, or they will kill the tree.
