Question
I live in New York.If the weather stay's in the 40's at night can I put my Asian Plants and Sundews outside if so can i put them out in the oppen were they get the sun or do I have to move them into the sun a little at a time they are under artifical light on my windowsill right now.The only problem is I only get afternoon sun is that ok.

Answer
Hi Sammy,

New York is considered zones 5-6, so you still have a risk of frost.  I'd say it's too early to bring them outside.  You should wait until the risk of frost is passed and the nighttime temperature is consistently above 55癋.  If you bring your Nepenthes out too early, they might not be acclimated to 40?nights.

Also be aware that when you move plants from indoors to outdoors, the plant will need time to acclimate to its new conditions.  During this process, there will be leaf damage and discoloration, and potentially some pitcher loss.  This is usually unavoidable unless your indoor conditions are exactly the same as your outdoor conditions.

Wait until late May or early June before deciding to move your Nepenthes outdoors.

Good growing!
