worms

Question
Yesterday when I watered in the a.m. my plants looked fine.  When I came home at night I checked them and there were green catepillar looking wormy things all over my lettuce.  Where did they come from so quick.  What can I use to kill them.  I cut the lettuce all back; but tonight I see small ones on my squash which where in the same garden box.  I am trying to use organic methods.

Answer
Hi Lee, Squash is susceptible to the Pickle worm, I suspect that might be what is afflicting your lettuce also; I have never really delved into Organics, but rely on Sevin for my insect problems on veggies. Once the Pickle worm takes hole, it is a case of the damage already being done, and there really is little you can do at this point to save the infested veggies; in the future, the plants need to be treated "prior" to infestation, to prevent its occurrence.
