My cactus

Question
Hi Greg!!! I bought a cactus when my husbund and I got married to symbolize our love for each other. Now all of the suddon it is dying??? The stem is rotting and there is dark spots on the top of the cactus? The spikes on the cactus are still very firm. I need you expertise on bringing my cactus back to life!!! Please help me!!!

Answer
Kiera,

If the stem is rotting at the bottom near the ground, that usually indicates too much water. It will depend on how much of the stem is unaffected as to whether or not you can save the plant. If you have at least 8 inches or so of healthy plant remaining, it can be removed, left out to heal for a couple of weeks, then replanted.

Don't use the same soil when you replant, use a "cactus mix" type of soil and water only when the soil is dry. Also, keep it out of direct sunlight. Hopefully this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
