areca palm worms

Question
Yesterday I bought a gorgeous areca palm, only to notice, when I was watering it, a dozen or so inch-long grey-ish worms or maggots surfacing from the dirt. Is this normal? Can they become moths?

Answer
A common occurrence I'm sorry to say, what you need to do Keith is repot it with new medium and a new pot; nursery pots are known for being infested with insect larvae. The good news is that the infestation is normaly contained to the soil and the plant itself should be fine, just make sure when you repot it, that you remove as much of the soil from the root ball as possible.
