Desert willow

Question
We want to grow some desert willow and have access to both cuttings and seeds....we need some specific directions on how to propagate, as we have tried to grow from both seeds and cuttings in the past with no success...Help!  lol   thank you in advance Dave

Answer
Hi Dave,
Thanx for your question.  Fresh seed should be sowed immediately as it quickly degrades.  The seed does not require cold treatment.  It germinates best a cooler temperatures 60-65 degrees.  Cuttings should be dormant (no leaves) about 6 inches long, cut with a sharp knife and dipped in rooting hormone.  Cuttings should be semi-woody.  Stick the cuttings in warm, wet sand (about an inch deep) and keep the bottom warm.  Rooting usually occurs in 8 weeks.  New leaves and buds will begin to form when the cuttings are rooted.  Keep the conatiner with the cuttings sealed inside a clear plastic bag and mist the cuttings twice a day. I hope this helps.
Tom
