Pussy Willow

Question
Hello,

I see your expertise is starting plants from seeds but thought you still might be able to help.

Can you start pussy willow from a twig? If so, do you put it in water until roots appear or do you put it directly into dirt?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Terry,
Thanx for your question.  I have expertise in various methods for starting plants.

Pussy willows are easy to start in a jar of water on a sunny window sill.  It only takes a couple of weeks to get a full complement of roots.  Plant the rooted cutting in an area that gets full sun for 6-8 hours a day after all danger of frost has passed.  You can also stick a pussy will twig into damp soil and water periodically and the cuttings usually will take root in a couple of weeks.  I hope this helps.
Tom
