Answer
Hi S. Mahabir,

Thanx for your question.  I'm sorry but this question is outside of my expertise.  I mean, I can give you ideas about what I think but there are websites that have been put together by people who consider themselves survivalistsl or homesteaders who have practical experience, growing, producing and stockpiling foodstuffs.

If I were going to grow food to sustain me during times of shortage, I would make sure I had plenty of greens like leaf lettuce, mustard greens, collards, Swiss chard.  Many of these plants will grow for most of the year in varying degrees except the coldest of winters.  I would grow corn, potatoes and turnips for starch and carbohydrates.  The potatoes and turnips can be stored in a cool cellar for most of the year, corn can be allowed to dry and used to make bread or cakes.

Technically, you could grow tomatoes and peppers indoors.  You can also grow mustard greens indoors.  One of the things survivalists rely upon is "putting up" produce.  That means canning and preserving.  We do a lot of canning at my house and we can a lot of jams, jellies, pickles, salsas, tomato sauce, barbecue sauce.  You can freeze almost all vegetables.  The problem with freezing though, is if your power is cut off and you don't have a generator, you will lose your frozen crop.  You can also dry many vegetables and fruits.  Even tomatoes can be sundried.

I would recommend that you Google homesteading or canning and preserving.  There will be a wealth of information.  Some of these sites however, have owners who often express extreme opinions regarding government, social issues and religion.  Some of them are blatantly racist and/or extreme in their political views. And some of them frankly, do not know what they're talking about as some of their methods are untried.  You'll be able to weed through that though.  I look at a lot of different sites regarding food preservation and have found quite a bit of useful information.  For surviving long periods of time without power and civilized society, I would recommend canning and drying.  I recently learned how to make yogurt and cheese.  You can learn to make cheese that won't spoil but yogurt needs to be protected.  Anyway, I know this isn't probably what you were looking for but like I said in the other question I answered for you, I'm only a hobbyist who has learned from reading and through trial and error how to start plants from seeds.  I hope this helps.
