Pindo palm (butia capitata)

Question
Hello, Nick -
My pindo palm has sprouted abt 5 large seed pods this yr.  The pindo is probably 8 ft tall. It has produced a few new fronds this year as well. My husband wonders.... if we remove the seed pods when they emerge, will the palm then put more energy into creating new fronds? Can you please advise?
Thanks very much,
Jane in Plano TX

Answer
Hi Jane, a common question, the fact of the matter is, all palms set out seed pods, and whether you remove them or not, will make no difference in the development of the palm; cut the pod off if want, but from an aethetic standpoint, it won't effect the future growth of the palm at all...Nick
