Silver Bismarck palm

Question

Bismark fruit/seed?
Hi, I have a bismarck that is aorund 10 years old. It has fruit on it  2 different ones. One the size of a quarter (many of these). Then there are some the size of golfballs. Sizes are with fruit fallen off. My question is which if any contain the seed? I tried to open the bigger ones but they are pretty solid with like a white inside them.Thank you

Answer
Hi Ralph,
Thanx for your question.  If all of the fruit has been removed you may just have two different sizes of seed here.  Generally, Bismarckia nobilis seeds ar 1.5 inches in diameter.  When you said that when you opened one of the bigger ones it was pretty solid white, that would be about right for what is termed the endocarp.  I think they're all seeds.  Did they all come from a long hanging braid of fruit?  If so, then they're all the same seed just different sizes.  Here's a link to University of Florida that talks about palm seed.  http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/EP238

I hope this helps.
Tom
