Florida cold spell

Question
We had two nights in a row that got down to 27 degrees and now my foxtail & christmas palm tree frans have turned brown I would like to know, will the trees survive?

Answer
Hi Richard, this is the most common question I have been receiving in the last week and with good reason; your Foxtail should be ok, but the existing fronds will eventually fall off. Watch the emerging frond from the center, it will show the tale of the tape for survival; it should be green and viable, if the center spear doesn't develop in the next month and just stays there in an inert state, then the palm is probably beyond help, but if it begins to unravel (even in a brown state), then your Palm will be fine. Irrigate it once a week, but don't do anything else until you notice normal growth (fertilizing). Nick
