adonidia palm cold damage

Question
We have 3 triple trunk adonidia palms.  The new fronds are drying out(turning brown) on the stalk and breaking off before fully opening.  Could this be lethal yellowing or cold damage?

Answer
Hi Cynthia, albeit lethal yellowing is a threat to Christmas Palms, many areas aren't effected by it as of yet, (I don't know where you live..#, but this time of year, and given the extremely cold spell we had last month, I am inclined to think it has been effected detrimentally by cold stress; Christmas Palms are extremely vulnerable to cold stress and many here in Port Charlotte, Florida #climate zone 9b) have succumbed. If the heart of your palm dies, the new emerging frond will pull right out with a slight tug. This is litmus test , if it comes out, the palm is dead. Nick
