limp peony

Question
I transplanted a peony and some other plants to my garden... I don't know when exactly, a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately they had to sit in the car for a while and grew limp.  The other plants have perked up by now but the peony still droops.  I cut off the bud because it was black and lying on the ground, but the leaves themselves droop to the ground.  The leaves aren't brown or yellow though, just limp.  I water it with Miracle Gro often.  It's in a mostly shady area, but I thought that was OK for peonies.  What can I do?
Thanks,
Sal

Answer
Sal,
The hardest thing a gardener has to learn is patience and in your instance that's all you really can do. Peonies are peculiar and they do whatever they want no matter what you do to them. My experience with them is to not coddle them.Whatever happens, happens. So give it a few months and you will know by then if it doesn't perk up,it probably won't.But don't despair yet. Just cut all the leaves off and leave some stems. The eyes(roots) are what is important and Peonies will surprise you and you may see new foliage emerge next year from those stems.Good luck to you!
