Question
i have very large leaves on my brussels sprouts is it safe to eat those leaves if i cut those leaves just now will it affect the growth of my plants as they will not be ready till november the crop is looking relay healthy is it normal to have large leaves as last years crop did not look like this last years crop was very very poor and very small sprouts

Answer
Alexander:
It is safe to eat the leaves - I've never done so, so I don't know how they taste. I wouldn't cut off too many however, as it could effect the size of your crop.

And yes, it is normal. The time to remove the leaves actually, is when you harvest the sprouts. It is easier to pick them if you remove the leaf below each sprout you want to cut. Small sprouts are good, they are the most tender - though I assume you mean yours were too small to be worth eating. Maybe you just didn't wait long enough? If they start to open up, then they have gotten as big as they are going to, otherwise I'd just leave them on the stalk until they get to the size you want. Also, they will be smaller as the season goes on.
