Tree losing leaves

Question

Underside leaves with
I have 2 huge trees in my backyard, they are great shade trees.  They look great in early spring and but then the leaves have things growing on the underside and the leaves start to fall off of the tree all summer long.  Then finally in the fall they all come off.  So it is still full of leaves during the season but still alot of leaves fall off, especially on windy days.  I don't know what kind of trees they are either. I would like to know if they are diseased and what I can do about it if anything. Or do I have to cut them down?

I dont think there is a vital connection with the insects in your picture.  I think that the trees need to be fed. The leaves falling off prematurly sounds like a weak tree.  The insects are attracted to this and are moving in for the kill.  I would recommend a good quality tree and shrub fertilizer.  Fertilize all areas under the tree out to the drip line.  I think this will enhance the health and these insects will go elsewhere.

I wouldnt recommend a cheap fertilizer.  Maybe even have it done by a professional arborist with credentials.  Beware as there are many fakes out there that know absolutly nothing about tree and plant health.

Good Luck]
