bonfires

Question
HELLO,
i'm just wondering about planting begonia bonfires. I took
them out of a pot in November and placed them i a bag, in a
dark space, there was no flowers on the the bulbs at this
time. Now in may, the bulbs are in bags, and they are
sprouting, but the arent flowering, i know i should plant
them around this time, But I not sure how to plant them???

Answer
Hi Ben,
Thanx for your question.  Plant your begonias in rich, well draining soil.  If the soil is in pots, make sure the pots drain well.  Make an impression into the soil that is large enough to allow the tube to sit comfortably within its confines.  Make sure the tuber is covered with about 5cm of soil.  Keep the soil moist but not soggy.  Begonias like full sunshine so make sure they don't get shaded for too many hours.  They are also great for hanging baskets.  Feed the plants a balanced fertilizer 12-12-12 about once a month.

It's okay to cover the sprouts with dirt.  A covering of 5 cm isn't going to hurt the plants.  I hope this helps.
Tom
