Bugs in soil

Question
I have a lot of plants in my house most of them are tropical plants and recently I've noticed that some of my plants have little tiny brown or tan colored bugs that crawl around in the soil. Some plants have more than others and I was just wondering how I can get rid them. if you could help me out I would very much appreciate it.

   Thank you

Answer
Dear Steve,

I presume the bugs are not ants?  They can often be seen in soil disturbing the roots and also they carry aphids from one plant to another.  Another insect which could possibly be the culprit is woodlice.

I would suggest that you put some of the insects in a matchbox and take them to your local plant store for identification and then buy whatever insecticide they suggest.  This could either be a liquid to be diluted in water, a spray or perhaps a powder.

I do hope you manage to eradicate these insects - if you can, do move all the infected ones away from those which are not infected as it is so easy for the insects to spread to other plants.

Good Luck

Diana
