Juniper Bushes

Question
What is a good way to make my lawn healthy?  Can I pour sugar on it or is there a better way to "fertilize" it?  We have ducks & don't want to use chemicals.

Question -
I recently bought a home with Juniper bushes which I swore I never would because of all the spiders & bugs that grow in them. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of or atleast minimize the number of spiders that live in them. Also, there is a large garden that hasn't had anything done in it for a long time & it's full of really tall thick weeds. Do you have any suggestions on how to make the weed removal proccess a little easier than digging the whole thing up?  Thanks for your help!

Hi Jennifer;
Sure can. Read my answers on using sugar to fed the microbes that enrich soil. Weeds like poor soil and won't live in rich soil.
Cedar bark mulch under the junipers will help, with incests. Cedar repells a whole lot of insects. Basil and lavender also repela lot of them.
Make a healthy enviornment for toads, lizards, and grass snales, and they will eat a huge number of insects.I have spreading junipers in my front lawn, and I have no insects in them.
Chemicals CREATE problems, they don't solve them. Organics solve them.
You have to go one way or the other, though. If you use organic programs, and then use some chemicals, they will cancel out the organics.
Fertilizers don't enrich the soil, they feed the vegetation growing in the soil, including the weeds, and then wear out, and you have to reapply them.
Chemicals kill all the beneficial microbes and insects and lawn critters, that would take care of the harmful ones by eateing them all.
For every harmful insect, there are hundreds of beneficial ones that feed on them. Make a healthy lwan for these beneficial critters to live in, and you wil not see any damage from the harmful ones any longer.
Now, when you enrich the soil with organics, you will still get the tree seedlings that the birds and wind seed into your yard, because trees love rich soil, but the weeds will disappear over time, till you will not see them even come up anymore.

Answer
Hi again Jennifer;
That is what I like about organics best, the fact that your children and pets don't get poisons that can make them sick or kill them.
I just broadcast the sugar by hand. I get more even coverage like that.
Like throwing feed to a chicken yard full of chickens. I just carry the bag in my left arm, and take handfuls and strew with a sweeping arc.
Best not to do on a windy day.LOL
Your ducks will be fine with any of the organics.
