I have a strange species of what I believe to be in the mentha genus. . the leaves smell like lemon and mint . .

I think you are describing a plant called lemon balm, or a mint variety called hillary's Sweet Lemon mint. If the aroma is just lemon, or is a mix of all citrus flavours, tell me at [email protected] because to solve which variety it is I need the exact aroma. If it is a citrus smell it might be Julia's Sweet citrus mint. Now, if you decide it smells like lime or orange or even grapefruit, tell me when you email! good luck on finding the correct variety!
