Question
I would like to know how to split a mint plant to make three or four smaller plants - do i just divide the roots and repot?

You may divide the plant a few ways. If it is old it has roots spreading, so cut each section where there are roots & plant it. Divide the plant & plant each section where there are roots showing & plant it. Cut 6" pieces from the stalks & place in a glass of water & set in window sill. Change the water weekly.
