Roots

Question
Hi There, I have conifer roots protruding through my lawn. The trees are about two  feet from the lawn and the roots coming through, please could you advise me can i remove these without killing the conifer tree. Its spoiling the look of my garden. Many thanks.

Answer
I would add sand over the roots on the surface and this will grow back in the grass. Do not add more than 3 inches more than this may damage the roots. Cutting the roots will cause dieback of the foliage and it not recommended. Sand is better than clay soil  or top soil since it allows water to penetrate and is not as heavy on the roots as clay soil would be.i
