Soil disease

Question
Hi Jim,
I have a problem with what looks like it may be a fungus attaching and
growing on the roots of some plants and trees. I recently had a young
avocado tree and a young naval orange tree die and when inspecting the
roots found masses of bright white thread like structures on the root
systems. Upon further inspection, I have found this same thing in the
vegetable garden a few inches deep, attached to pieces of bark mulch. Does
this sound like a type of soil fungus?   Is there a remedy?
I'm afraid I may have transferred it to different areas of the garden by using
the same shovel in various spots...
I appreciate your help.

Answer
Sounds like the roots have a abundance of Mycelium on the root system. Most of these are good fungi that help the roots absorb food from the soil. Since damaging fungi will not infect across plant species it fits the description of one of these good fungi. IF the plants are not showing and distress such as smaller leaves, yellowing foliage etc, This is not a fungi that is a problem and needs no treatment.
