bartlet trees

Question
i have beautiful bartlet pears something happen to them this year they bloomed beautful then all of a sudden they lost all there leaves and the leaves turned brown it lookes dead or dormet dont know what happen to them

Answer
Hi Norma

Sounds like excessive water or moisture saturated ground.  As this water sits in the ground fungus developes as a result. This fungus multiplies very quickly and will get into the trees nutrient system and literally choke it off.  The tree may resemble something that has had no water at all but really its the lack of nutrients translocating to the leaves that will make them dry up and fall off.

One other thing it could be is after they bloomed you may have had a hard freeze.  The tree cells are much more succeptable to weather after blooming and sometimes it will kill a tree all together.
