Red Peppers (sweet, not hot)

Question
Several years ago I grew red peppers which started out sweet, but halfway thru the summer became EXTREMELY hot.  I haven't grown peppers since, but plan to this year.  What variety of red pepper seed might I buy for growing sweet red or yellow peppers (all summer) in Illinois?

Answer
Kevin, any bell pepper should provide the taste you are looking for. They start out green and eventually mature to red, and actually get sweeter once they turn.

Some great varieties include California Wonder, Karma, and Sweet Rainbow. Some very good roasted peppers include Carmen, Godfather, and Giant Marconi. These also mature to red and are very sweet.

You may want to look at some catalogs for additional varieties. Some very good websites include Park Seed, Burpee, Johnny's, and Harris Seed.

I hope this information helps. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
