Hot Peppers

Question
I'm in Ohio and the weather has been difficult.  I started my garden indoors and the put my plants in the ground. 80% died - or so I thought.  Then things started sprouting but not in rows I had planted.   What I THINK are hot peppers ( I planted jalapenos, chilli, calabessa and mixed hot) have slender pointed leaves with a bit of purple coloring on the inner part.  Are these hot peppers or am I nurturing a weed.  The chipmunks have wreaked havoc on my garden.  I have lettuce growing 100 feet away in my flower garden etc.  These "hot pepper" plants are cropping up everywhere!

Answer
Dear Kelly,
This isn't going to be much of an answer, but I didn't want to just reject the question and that was my other choice, so here goes . . .
It sounds like you are describing a weed, and there is one weed in particular that strongly resembles a pepper plant.
If there are tons of them, I'm guessing weed.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
