sweet banana peppers

Question
I have my sweet banana peppers in pots outside and they seem to be growing good but on 2 of the which are approx. 5" in length have black streaks on them, what should I do.
Also exactly when should I pick them, what color should they be and what size as this is the first time I have ever planted anything. I have also planted several different tomato plants and herbs and am really enjoying this. I really need all the help I can get as I would like to have some bountiful vegetables and herbs. Just for your info I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. We have had a lot of rain in the past 4 days and not a lot of sun.
Please help!
Thank you,
Betty

Answer
Betty:
The cool damp weather may have caused some fungus rot on those peppers. I would pick them. You may want to spray the plant with some neem oil or baking soda in water to prevent it from spreading, but you will need at least 8 hours of dry weather for the sprays to work.

I usually see banana peppers used at the yellow stage, but they are completely ripe when they are red. I'd try picking some at both stages and see which you prefer. They'd be nice used together that way, too.
