fruit/veggies in floral arrangements

Question
is there a way to coat or preserve fruit and/or veggies to keep the color and or fresh look when using them in an arrangement...or inside a vase?

Answer
Hi Julia,

You are talking about whole, not cut, fruit right?  Not really much you can do.  You could wax them, but I find that dipping in hot parrafin does more harm than good.  What you can try (and which works GREAT for christmas greens and trees) is to spray them down with Wilt Pruf.  You can get it in an Agway near you or on line.  It was designed to keep evergreens from drying out over the winter, but I have used it with some success on whole fruit like apples and pears.  On citrus, you should buy as UNDER ripe as possible for the longest lasting arrangement.

Sorry there isn't a magic bullet for that one!

Hope this helps!  Seasons Greetings!
