Fruit Sprouts in Texas

Question
Hi, i wanted to ask you a question about different fruit trees and the climates needed to grow them in.  I am quite interested in growing fruit trees and i need to know how to get them to grow after sprouting.  I have Lemon, Fuji Apple, Red Delicious Apple, and Kiwi sprouts.  I also have a Peach in the fridge and have some Pear seeds planted, but no sprouts.  I want to know what it takes to grow them, and if it helps, I live in Texas.

Thanks,
Josef Jackson

Answer
Hi Josef,
Thanx for your question.  Texas is a large state and has diverse climates.  Your lemon and kiwi will probably not survive in Dallas but would do well in Houston or Corpus Cristi.  Apples and peaches will grow just about anywhere in Texas.  All of these fruits require full sun and regular watering, so, if you live in a dry area you'll need to irrigate 1 inch of water per week when there is no consistent rainfall.  Pot your sprouts up in separate pots and allow them time to get more mature then put them outdoors after all danger of frost, in a protected place where they will be sheltered from extremes in temperature, direct sunlight, hail, wind, rain, etc. for about 10 days.  The seedlings will then have been acclimatized and can be moved to the desired permanent spots.  I've attched some links to the Texas A&M website that has a lot of in for on growing fruit trees in Texas.  I hope this helps.
Tom
