nematodes

Question
how do I get rid of nematodes in my garden?, and could you give me some names of resistant plants to grow for tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe, etc. my plants wilt and die and the roots have knots on them. Do you know a good catalog to get resistant plants from, if I can't kill out the nematodes?

Answer
Hi Nadine, Your local independent garden center should have, or be able to get, chiton for you.  It is made from crab shells and controls nematodes.  I use a product by Hi-Yield called Nem-i-cide.  You just till it into the soil several weeks before planting.
As far as varieties, ask the garden center what varieties they will offer and search online seed companies.  Look for the letters VFN following the varietal name.  That means they are wilt and nematode resistant.  Jim
