avacados

Question
I have an avocado plant that is about 4 or 5 months old it is about 18 inches tall. it grew three large leaves and stopped growing for awhile i pinched it back and now it sprouted another long stem and is starting to grow a second row of leaves, but the first three leaves are starting to get brown spots on them. What up with that?

Answer
Hi Reda,
Thanx for your question.  I've seen this happen before and a lot of times it happens indoors during the winter.  You pinched off the lead so another sprout formed with new growth.  The new growth probably looks good.  I'm not sure what the brown spots are but in my experience once the spring comes and you can get them outdoors into lots of sunlight the new leaves that form will be spot free.  Let the tree grow another 2 feet and then pinch it back again if it starts to get leggy so that the tree will get fuller.  I think the brown spots form on the mature leaves due to lack of light.  I hope this helps.
Tom
