Flower seeds.

Question
It's spring!  and i wanted to start growing some flowers at my flat to make it look nicer, and i thought about buying some seeds, growing them and then getting seeds from them to grow more flowers.  But i have no idea how i do that.

I can grow them easy enough, i just want to know if/how i could get new plantable seeds from flowers that i've already grown.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Koneko.

Answer
Koneko,
Thanx for your question.  Many people save seeds from year to year. One thing you have to remember is if the flower is a hybrid the resulting seeds will not produce offspring that resemble the parents next year.  If you have flowers that are called-open pollinated flowers, they should come true from seed year after year.  Some flowers, to me, it isn't worth saving the seeds because the nursery plants are so cheap like pansies, marigolds, salvia, impatiens, petunias and geraniums.  Gathering seeds is easy.  Leave the flowers on the plant until they turn brown.  Seeds for marigolds, cosmos and zinnias are easy to collect because they are large and obvious.  Other seeds like from petunias and impatiens are extremely small and it will take some experience to identify them.  You can do a search on Google.com and look for pictures of seeds from flowers from which you would like to collect seed or you can post a follow up and tell me what kind of flowers from which you would like to collect seed and I will help you identify the seed.  Once you collect the seed keep in in an air-tight container in a room where it doesn't get too cold or hot with average humidity and preferably in the dark.  I hope this helps.
