ocotillo flower

Question
I got a ocotillo from a nursery in Arizona . They told me I could trim the ends of plant if they were to long. now it looks like it is not going to produce flowers at the ends any more, but it is very healthy, will it ever produce flowers again?

Answer
Yes, I do think it will produce flowers again.  Take care of it the way the nursery told you to do.  If you trim it back it will be fuller and develop more branches.  This is a good time to trim as it is in it's active growing cycle.  I'm fairly sure you'll see flowers by the end of the summer.  There is the possibility that because of the shock of trimming (and recent planting, it sounds like)  you may have to wait till next summer.

Enjoy,
Maureen
