Phalaenopis Orchid

Question
My plant had flowers on it when I received it as a gift. The flowers lasted a long time. When the flowers died, I cut the stems off about half way. I'm getting new leaves but no flowers. Will it flower again? Thanks for any help you can give me. Helen

When they died, I cut the stemoff about half way

Answer
There are nodes on the old flower spike. If you cut the old flower spike above a node so there are still one or more nodes on it, it might reflower at one of those nodes. However, it is not unusual for old flower spikes to turn brown and die back.  In either event, if the plant remains healthy, you can expect it to reflower on a new flower spike and/or the old green flower spike about the same time next year. The fact that you are getting new green leaves is a good sign.  Normally, phalaenopsis flower only once per year, so you may need to wait until next year for more flowers.
