crape myrtle

Question
I have read that growing a new plant from seeds does not give nearly as great a specimen as the original plant.  Have you seen this?
thanks!

Answer
Hi Pam,
Thanx for your question.  I always advise people that growing from seed can present problems if the seeds were harvested from hybrid plants.  The resulting progeny will probably not resemble the parent plants and often the progeny are of lesser quality than the parent plants.  Still, it doesn't hurt to experiment as long as you are prepared for results that may be less than acceptable.  I've certainly done it and I would do it again but doing so with the knowledge that I know not what to expect so I am not disappointed.  I hope this helps.
Tom
