Planting pomegrantate seeds

Question
Hi Tom, I would like to grow a pomegranate tree from seed. (from seeds of the pomegranates I now have) How do I do so?

Answer
Hi Ken,
Thanx for your question.  When using seeds from store-bought fruit to grow plants remember that the majority of these fruits are a result of intense hybridization.  Most often you will get a plant that is inferior to the plant that bore your fruit.  But, it is still fun to try it.

Let the seeds dry for a few days and then plant them in pots with good potting soil, keeping the soil warm and moist. Place the pot in a sunny window. The seeds will germinate in a few weeks to a couple of months. Do not let the soil dry out while you're waiting for the seeds to germinate. You can keep your plant trimmed into shrub form so it can be treated as a houseplant.  Most pomegranates are not hardy below zone 7.  I hope this helps.
Tom
