cross pollinating

Question
I live in Canada just North of Toronto where there are all kinds of ditch lillies(orange in colour) Can they be cross pollinated to change their colours? Thanks Trish

Answer
Hi Trish,
Thanx for your question.  Yes, theoretically, ditchlilies (wild daylilies) can have their genetic code manipulated through manual pollination to deviate color.  You can look for specific traits in specific flowers and then concentrate pollination, isolate the flower by bagging it so that it cannot be pollinated again and then wait for the seed pod to ripen.  It's fun to experiment.

Here is a good site that documents hybridizing.  I hope this helps.
Tom
