Question
QUESTION: I have a very prolific wisteria which produces beautiful white blooms every year. Trouble is that I bought it as a lavender couloured plant but it came in white. Is there anything I can do to change the colour of the blooms??. Thanks
Paris, Ontario, Canada

ANSWER: Hi Sandy,
Thanx for your question.  Was the wisteria blooming lavender when you bought it and it changed to white or was it not blooming and just labeled white?  I don't believe one can change the color.  I think it must have been mislabeled.  I hope this helps.

QUESTION: It was labled as lavender when I bought it. but bloomed white. I have heard you can change the colour of Hydrangeas with certain chemicals and wondered if it would work for Wisteria. S James

Answer
Hi Sandy,
Thanx for the additional information.  Ok.  Sounds like someone mislabeled the plant.  Yes, with certain hydrangeas one can change the color by adding aluminum sulfate or other additives to build an acidic soil.  This will result in a blue hydrangea.  While alkaline additives will make the hydrangea pink, but that's not all hydranges.  Just the ones bred to blue blue like 'Nikko Blue'.  It doesn't work for Wisteria.  The white is just another variety and not the result of chemical changes in the soil.  I'm sorry.  I hope this helps.
