sticky palm frond

Question
Hi Nick,
My indoor palm tree has a new frond that has developed a sticky residue.  None of the other fronds have it.  I think it is a Queen palm but not sure. Do you know what it could be?

Answer
Hi, it sounds like you may be developing an insect problem, most likely mites; as they feed they give off a secretion that is stickly and honeydew like. wipe the frond down with some household Isoprohyl alchohol and that should take care of the problem for you; watch for outbreaks on other fronds, and treat accordingly. Nick
