Foxtail Palm and Broken New Frond

Question
Hello.  I have a foxtail palm that was planted in Ft
Lauderdale in Aug 2008.  During the past dry months it had
one new frond emerging but not quite falling.  Recently,
after all of the rain, the frond fully emerged but then
snapped and is hanging down but still attached to the tree.
There is still a smaller new frond emerging as well.  Should
I worry about this?  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Kelly, it sounds like the Petiole was in a weakened condition due to the drought and when the full weight of the frond bore down on it, snapped; I wouldn't be overly concerned about it, as long as the new frond appears healthy and the other existing ones also appear fine. If it broke at the Petiole just cut it off, for it isn't functioning now anyway. Keep your Palm properly irrigated and fertilized and thank God we finally got some rain...Nick
