Kentia Palm damage

Question -
I own an 8' tall Kentia plant and one of the fronds is damaged.

I think somebody tried to take off a couple of leaflets from the frond to grow a new plant and now the enire frond is dying. the damaged frond is turning yellow and brown and getting dryer.

Is there a way I can save the frond?
- Maybe some kind of special mixture I can apply as a band-aid until it heals?
- Or should I just amputate the frond before it dries out.

the damage is about 9" long and at least 3 leaflets are missing from the base of the frond.

Any suggestions?

Answer -
Hi Mireille,

If the frond is gradually turning more yellow and brown, then that frond is already in the process of dying and cannot be resurrected.

It is quite normal for older (lower) fronds to discolor and die as new fronds grow in. As long as healthy new fronds continue to replace older ones, there is no cause for concern.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.

If a frond is dead should I cut it closer to the base or where the leaflets begin to sprout?

Answer
Cut the frond as close to the main stem (base) as possible. In time, the sheath that attaches the frond stem to the main stem will turn brown and come loose.
